Today’s Flower – Ironweed
Found throughout Ohio, Ironweed (Vernonia altissima) is in full bloom here in NE Ohio from August until the frost. Its name refers to the strong red stems that can grow to over 7 feet tall. Preferring moderately damp soil, it is found most often in meadows or fertile pastures. This one was growing at the edge of the woods at Mohican Lodge.
