Camera Critters - Nestlings
While I was busy in the yard this week, I had several opportunities to check on the blue jay nestlings. And yesterday, when all the work was finally done, I rewarded myself with a photo session.
There are two young blue jays in this nest. One huddles close to the tree and seems almost shy. The other one looks around, wide-eyed. He frequently stands on the edge of the nest and fluffs himself up. (I say "he" but, of course, they are marked exactly the same. Something about the boldness of this little bird makes me think of it as male.) Perhaps one is a few days older than the other.
One thing is certain: this nest is getting crowded, especially when the mother is sitting in it, too.

I like your pictures! I was wondering how you get them to post that large. I clicked the "large" button on the template but they don't come up that big.
Thanks.
Thanks for visiting me.
I really appreciate you taking the time to explain it to me!
Great photos of your jays.
Hugs,
Betsy
I am a first-year volunteer w/NJ Fish & Wildlife & have been monitoring GBHeron rookeries in my county. Last weekend, I witnessed first flights for several, which pretty much brought me to my knees. New life is always amazing, regardless of whose life it is!
