Camera Critters - Watchful Gaze

I am always pleased to find the lions awake when we visit the Cleveland
Zoo. It makes for a much more interesting photo session, after all.

African Lion photo by Adrienne in Ohio

While I was watching this male African lion, a turkey vulture soared into my peripheral vision. I looked up and took his picture, then glanced back down. It amused me to see that the lion was also following the vulture's flight. I wonder what he thought about that bird.

Near the end of the day, the kids began talking about what animal they would be if they could choose to live at the zoo. Henry and Ethan both said they would be a rhino because Ethan said "they can bust lions up." Henry said he might also like to be zebra. Megan would be a giraffe. Then they asked me what I would be. I chose a peacock because they are beautiful and have the run of the place. No cages for me, thanks. How about you: What would you be?

Very nice lion photo. He seems to be a little sleepy, but he's enjoying watching that bird. maybe he's hoping it will land nearby so he'd have something to catch.
Being a peacock would be cool. You could just strut around all day being admired.

Not sure what animal in the zoo I would be, but for domestic purposes, I'd be a house cat. Sleep all day, treat people badly and get away with it, get fed and petted (If i so desire) - yep, it's the kitty life for me! :)

Happy Critturday!

I would love toknow what he was thinking too. I bet he was watching to see where it went...thinking there would be food there.

Fantastic photos and a great story! I'm with you - no cages for me!!! That was SO cool how the lion was following the vulture. Great post!
Adrienne: You really got some neat shots of the lion from the zoo. I guess I would like to a Hippo, they have there own indoor/outdoor pool to relax in.

Beautiful photos. I love the way he is looking toward the sky!
Yes, I did change my header photo for spring. I took that in our front yard last year.

The lion was probably wishing he could get to what ever the vulture was looking for :) Great shots!
Those lion shots are AWESOME Adrienne! Going to the zoo is not only fun for the kids, but a great photo op as well. :)

What amazing pictures! We love the zoo but agree most times the big animals are asleep or hiding. So we would go seee the otters SO entertaining AND the sun bear which To answer your thought I think if I were an animal in the zoo it would be the sun bear. Everytime we went to the Akron Zoo the sun bear was just a goofy looking creature who didn't seem to care and made everyone watching laugh. I really like that bear.
