Rainbow Cloud

My daughter excitedly pointed out this rainbow cloud on the way home from school on Tuesday. It was a brilliant sunny afternoon with just a few of these wispy cirrus clouds. Rainbow clouds are caused by the sun passing through tiny ice crystals within the cirrus clouds. It was quite vivid when first we saw it, but had faded some by the time I had the camera ready.

Rainbow or no rainbow this was well worth getting the camera out for. Nice shot!

Cool pic!!! Looks like the clouds were painted into the sky with a thin brush and a light touch! The rainbow is a bonus!
It looks like an artist has drawn a wisp feather over the sky
